You were lied to about what "AI" means.
AI doesn't stand for "Artificial Intelligence." (real meaning at the end)
Ever since generative AI came out, plenty of doubts have surfaced: that it kills creativity, that it replaces artists...
I've never seen it that way. To me, AI has always been a way to help people tap into their own imagination.
For as long as anyone can remember, you needed very deep skills to tap into your imagination: knowing how to paint to bring to life a picture you had in your head, knowing how to write to bring to life an incredible story you carried inside you... or resources: a film studio, video editors, illustrators to make cartoons.
AI gives power precisely to those who never had it.
That takes nothing away from the rest: the very best work will always come from those with more resources and more skills.
There will always be a special kind of art in pulling off your own drawings, something inexplicable I can't put into words.
But still, AI opens doors for people who had none. And I find that incredible.
I've always been fascinated by how stories tell truths that reality hides from us. By the idea that if we could see the world differently, the world itself would change. Thanks to the movies and stories I saw as a kid, when I see a castle today, I see a kingdom, a dragon, a princess, an adventure. Not bricks.
I'm convinced that stories can change the world, and that everyone should be able to tell their own.
That's why I'm finally launching Access Imagination. A completely free newsletter I've been thinking about for a long time, where, to put it simply, I play philosopher 😅.
I talk about the power of stories, about seeing the world with a magical eye, and about how technology and AI might help us do that.
It'll be different: more personal, philosophical, a bit of psychology... and it's not for everyone, I'm well aware. A pure passion project for me. But if what I just said resonates with you, you can join by clicking here, it's 100% free.
So yes, in this particular case, as far as I'm concerned, you were lied to about what "AI" means.
AI doesn't stand for "Artificial Intelligence," but:
❝
Access Imagination.
AI
Talk soon, Salim
PS: this time, the newsletter also comes in English for English speakers, it's right here. That's actually where the name comes from: in English too, it spells AI (AI: Access Imagination, not Artificial Intelligence).
